In Ephesians 1:3-14 there are three occurences of some form of "to the praise of his glory"â€”all connected to God’s action.
1) God chose us (all of us!)…to the praise of his glorious grace (or gracious glory).
2) God (divine passives) chose us (Jews) to the praise of his glory.
3) God sealed you (Gentiles) to the praise of his glory.
The first one sets the tone: a) universal and b) glory connected to grace.
And they cast lots to divide his clothing. (Luke 23:34b)
Â When the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they took his clothes and divided them into four parts, one for each soldier. They also took his tunic; now the tunic was seamless, woven in one piece from the top. So they said to one another, â€œLet us not tear it, but cast lots for it to see who will get it.â€ This was to fulfill what the scripture says, â€œThey divided my clothes among themselves, and for my clothing they cast lots.â€ And that is what the soldiers did. (John 19:23-25a)
