Be a Politician. No Convictions Required.

From a washingtonpost.com article on new VA Sen. Webb:

“He’s not a typical politician. He really has deep convictions,”

Does anyone else find something odd and even a bit sad about this statement?

I feel like with the pluralistic nature of our country, for politiicans to survive, it really would be hard to have strong convictions. Strong convictions seem don’t meet staus quo…

I hear you Nick. But, it is not the job of politicians to survive or meet the status quo. Their job is to represent their constituencies, and I assume their constituents voted them in office because of the convictions they claimed to have while running.
